Bedford NOA620 (prob)The only decent pic of a Birmingham (UK) Bedford as a Pump Escape that i've seen. Fleet No10,taken in 1966 in the engine house at old Albion Street Fire Station (closed March 1968) in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. Our usual Dennis PE must've been off the run as this is a Div Spare. Could just about get the rear mounted hose-reel to work but to operate the rear mounted pump, the escape ladder was usually slipped & pitched or propped free-standing. We even carried a Hook Ladder in those days! The brass pole drop glitters on the right hand side. The station opened c1911 and was replaced by Ladywood Fire Station on Icknield Port Road. Great times!
