Am looking to buy a small apliance. this appears to be a perfect size, because the limited space i have available. where would one find such an appliance. i have carried out a fair bit of research which have revealed that bedfords seem to be readily available, along with some dennis appliances, but i cant find many Land rovers on the market, i was wondering if you had any advice to offer.
A friend of mine has a land rover just like this one. He also has 2 bedfords and another land rover(Maby for sale, worth checking out)Directions:2 miles off the cahir round about on the left. There is a pub called the lady gregory and he is up there on the right hand side. He is well known in vintage runs.
there isn't many of these appliances my family have restored one along with our series one appliance as far as I know these appliances was mostly based in Ireland, ours which is the same as the one in the picture is built by " bates of Evesham" our was based at one of the stations in Ulster.
Hi Phil YES these appliances were built for the NIFB for retained stations all over Ulster. There were 54 built 48 of which were operational with my old brigade. I drove one of them for almost 10 years before it was replaced by a bedford PL.The one from my station (Banbridge)is now in a transport museum in Norway
ours was from 'down paterick'? but there is one in the The Ulster folk mueseum in Ireland, when you was driving them did you like the extended gear leaver? it was a 'unique' design
Had no problem with an part of this great wee machine. Took it right to the top of kilowen mountain in Co.Down to a large gorse fire.Check out Liam, s fire photos site for all the details you need on the L4Ps in Ulster
Sadly about 30 of these L4P's were 'chopped up' for scrap in 1993 after they were decommissioned and sold to a Landrover breaker near Belfast. They were sold for around £400 each if I recall. Many of the L4P's were in show condition with only 10/30k miles on them. was such a shame.
I have seen a few on my travels since but not in recent years.... another example of human destruction..
I remember very well the conversation I had with Fred Bates 20+ years ago about these vehicles but this is the only picture I have ever seen. I haven't seen Fred for a long while but I'm sure he would like to see this photo. ( I was at school with Fred's children before these vehicles were built !!).

What kind of pump capacities and water tanks did these L4Ps have? How did their equipment compare to a typical contemporary full size unit?
i was wondering if you had any advice to offer.
