This idea of painting the upper half of the cab white is very unusual in the UK - but actually very common in the US, especially among fire departments in the sunbelt, as the white roof reflects heat from the sun. It is also quite popular with many European fire services, but for a different reason. In the modern era of drones being used for fire command at serious incidents, white roofs with black identification numbers or letters also make it easier for commanders to be sure equipment gets positioned and/or relocated accurately on the fireground.
