The F26 appears to have been the successor to the F15. See picture 25901 for the same locker layout and same 3 inch gap between the cab and body to allow for flexing. The blank space on the sides is explained by the inclusion of narrow lockers for suction and stowage that run alongside the water tank, which are accessed from the rear.

I believe the Sheffield F15s had a 500IG tank - hence the unusual locker configuration. Presumably this F26 was the same? These were rare in the UK, as most brigades settled for the original JCDD specified 400 - which in turn dated back to the NFS MDU from WWII, when lorry chassis had typically much lower gross weight and payload capacities. Even today an 1800 litre water tank is the UK norm, although in most other countries there is a wide variety of tank capacities largely determined by whether the pumper is intended for urban use, rural firefighting or some midway compromise.

These range from 500 liters on a 3.5 ton portable pump tender for a small village volunteer fire company in Germany to 4000 on French forest fire truck on a Renault, MAN or Mercedes 14.5 ton 4X4 chassis.
