Dennis F38 pump ladder GMC

Given the lack of brigade markings, I suspect this is an ex Cheshire machine operating in Greater Manchester after amalgamation in 1974. GMC absorbed several Cheshire stations. For more on F36 vs F38 see below.

Late Alastair Collins collection - used with permission.

Most Dennis WRTs of this vintage had their hose reels in the box behind the rear wheels. Mounting them high up above the midships locker(s) was a favorite on units which were built to carry wheeled escape ladders (for obvious reasons) - but on these WRTs this location did provide some extra locker space. Although not perhaps all that important on the longer wheelbase versions (3.8 metre), it may have been important on this example, which had a shorter 3.3 metre wheelbase.
