Hi Petros. This is an F38. Reg Nos 413 and 415 were F36's. Cheshire had two F36's which had longer wheelbases and were fitted with a B81 and a stick. (very fast!) The 36's can be identified by the extra locker to the rear of the crew cab. Also in Cheshire they carried Merryweather 45ft ladders and were later converted to carry the 135 ladders. One originally based at Wilmslow (413) whilst 415 was based at Hyde and was subsequently inherited by the newly formed GMC Fire Service in April 1974.
Always a bit confused by Dennis ref numbers - I thought that the 36's had the 6 cylinder RR engine and the 38's the 8 cylinder motors , every day's a school day it seems... Thanks for the info Tony.

Swansea had a similar short wheelbase WT, but I believe this was a diesel and therefore a F106 or some other number in the F100 series - if Dennis also gave different numbers to the short and long wheelbase diesels. It would have had the AEC 470 130 BHP six cylinder engine and the odd reverse gate five speed transmission back then…
At the time, the brigade regretted this purchase, because they thought it was wider than would have been ideal. Perhaps they could have asked Dennis how wide it was before buying it! I was talking to them about getting a Ford D series diesel, but no purchases were imminent, so nothing came of it.
A few years later Dennis did finally introduce a narrower bodied compact water tender appliance, the "D" series. This had either the (sadly very troublesome) Jaguar 4.2 six cylinder petrol engine or the Perkins 6-354 diesel. Too late for Swansea, though!
