Ford D600/Carm WrT Gordonstoun school

1980s this is a public school but was also a volunteer unit of Grampian FRS crewed by staff, pupils and others. Very unusual arrangement.

Late Alastair Collins collection - used with permission.

That doesn’t look like a Grampian appliance unless there were two Gordonstoun schools with fire appliances.

Does anyone know the registration number of this vehicle? ENN---H?

Ed: sorry can't see it on my original scan. Scottish brigades are well covered by Graeme Kirkwood

Could it be ex Northumberland?

It is defiantly not a Scottish fire brigade badge on the doors, and it looks like ....stone?

Added by Grant Melville on 19 May 2022.
It could be a 1971 Ford D600:Carmichael WrT for Nottinghamshire Fire Service stationed at Edwinstowe. Registration Number ENN 777J

Ed: my guess is that Gordontoun (or stone) school bought this from Notts and not from the Grampian brigade as I had thought. But the school fire station is part of Grampian, and hence the name label on the door. This would make sense of these facts.

See door badge on this machine - looks the same?

Here is a Grampian Ford HCB Angus WrL contemporary with the one above - quite a similar size and design. Hence Grampian were happy for the school to buy the ex Notts machine for the volunteer station.

Scotland has a few all-volunteer fire stations to this day, because the economics of paid on call ("retained") fire crews just do not work in sparsely populated areas with small urban settlements many miles apart and often linked by very limited road networks - not to mention awful winter weather which can make them impassable!

picture 21937 depicts a D series with HCB Angus bodywork which was alleged to be the Gordonstoun volunteer fire brigade appliance.

Ed they have had a number of different appliances over the years, some of which are on this site.
