Bedford SH Morris Magirus TL ex Birmingham PVP665
Taken about 1978 in Wrexham, North Wales Bradley Rd/Ruthin Rd junction. According to the recent edition of Fire Cover (204) she went out of service in the mid 1970s and ended up in Wrexham with a tree lopping service. She eventually passed to the Aston Manor Transport Museum Aldridge Walsall and then stored at a farm near Uttoxeter.. It is now to be restored. It seems the turret was always green surprisingly. see picture 18745. Sorry for poor quality, 110 camera again.

The green turret reflects the fact that the Magirus ladder is originally from the era in prewar Germany when fire appliances were all painted police green. At this time their equivalent of the national fire service was a branch of the national police service and all equipment was painted accordingly. On this Bedford chassis from the fifties it is obviously a remount, but equally obviously nobody bothered to repaint it red. Darlington had a 27 meter Magirus ladder from 1938 which was red, as were a number of other ones supplied to London at about the same time, but a few additional prewar green German ladders from both Magirus and Metz have also turned up.
