These little white painted Bedford's were a great little appliance. This pump will have been running as a spare at York, we had them as divisional spares. I drove them when our pump was off the run at Acomb station, York. Thanks for sharing Petros.

These appliances are one of the Dennis M Series Range of fire appliances. These were supplied to several U.K Brigades and also went for the limited export market. It was Dennis's answer to the budget fire appliance market to compete with companies like HCB/Carmichael for a more lower priced appliance to compliment the F Range and the D Range of engines built at their Woodbridge Guildford Works. The West Riding of Yorkshire Fire Brigade took delivery of several of these handsome build appliances and in my opinion one of the more nicer looking designs for the Bedford T.K Chassis. When supplied to West Riding they were delivered in traditional fire engine red, but as more follows of this site will know West Riding adopted a brillant white colour scheme in 1969, (Grampian eat your heart out) and many of these Bedfords reached the paint shop and were repainted and re-issued in this unique livery.
One will see the York line up with the colours of red/white and coventry yellow appliances in the line-up. York fell into line with the City of Coventry by painting their appliances yellow and by the time they merged to become North Yorkshire were running a total yellow fleet of engines including a very handsome/compact Ford D600? water tender ladder shown on this website, may I ask readers if anyone knew what became of this cracking little appliance built by Carmichaels of Worcester.

Hi Bob. The ex York City Ford D Series, registration number BDN 614K was absorbed into the North Yorkshire fleet in 1974 with the Local Government boundary changes. It was re sprayed red and still look smart, it then went on the run at Sherburn fire station between York and Scarborough. It then went into the spare fleet for a few years. I am unsure of the year it was disposed of. I will make some enquiries and see what I can find out. Paul.

Up here in Dundee we had a white appliance before Grampian. It was a 1958 Dennis F24 repainted white and converted into a Foam Salvage Tender. It had an 9-10 metre Ladder on the offside and the fan was mounted above the pump.It was moved to Kingsway East Station in Dundee when it opened in 1972 and went out of service in 1976 replaced by an B reg (1964) Albion as Tayside had a tendency to convert older pumping appliances at the time to FST's. My father has driven this. Ron Henderson has a photo of it and kindly downloaded it with 2 0r 3 other's of Tayside for myself.
