Worcester's new GMC E.T July 1990

Taken in July 1990 outside Worcester fire station, this was the brand new ET for Worcester, reg. G781 FWP, running as call sign 2-1-9.
She replaced the old Ford/CFE - ET/BA Tender, reg. KNP 439T, that was modified by brigade workshops over the years but gave stalwart service from new in 1979. See picture 27012

For a few years I sold D series like the unit in picture 27012, and I am also familiar with these GMCs, as I have lived in the US for many years.

This rig may be quicker than the Ford, with its more powerful V8 gas engine and lighter gross weight, but its carrying capacity is only a fraction of the old unit it replaced. And in fact, it is not much shorter, nor more maneuverable. The wheelbase at 129 inches is only five inches less than the D series at 134...

Hopefully, the brigade knew what they were throwing away because it would not fit in this new rig.

Did this not replace a jeep j20 version?
Or did I glance at it too fast?

Ed: as in my previous answer, it did not.
