The Landrover may well be Scunthorpe Fire Stations personnel carrier at the time YBE 275 K ex Lincs (Lindsey) County Fire Brigade in which I had many a happy trip to training school in Derby two years after this incident

Sorry - in response to the registration of the Landrover its YFU 275K ex Lindsey we also used TBE 88H ex Grimsby as our 'luxury transport'

Anyone got info on the 4 x 4 that the firefighters are riding the rear of Land Rover I assume?

Flixborough was a chemical plant explosion which occurred when some 40tons of cyclohexane escaped from a temporary pipe and was then ignited, causing a massive explosion and setting much of the site alight. Some 26 people in the control room were killed. Fortunately being a weekend the rest of the site was unstaffed. Numerous injuries outside the site due to flying glass and the like.

I know Humberside hadn't been in existence long when this one took place, but the mobilisation was truly astoninshing. The "make pumps 30" was at 1732, but the acrtually had to request the CU attend at 1822.

Ian

Do you have a list of the mobilisation moves that took place - I would be interested to see it - either published or emailed to me ?

I would guess the Landrover the firemen are riding on the back of may have been one of the Normanby Park works of British Steels appliances from about three miles away !
