Dennis Fire Engines - By appointment badges
An earlier posting ( picture number 2279 ) showed a Dennis;
'By appointment motor vehicle manufacturers to the late King George V'
Badge. The badges shown above have also been used by Dennis. The by appointment badge on the right was used when King George V was alive (died 1936). You may continue to display a 'by appointment' badge for 5 years after the death of a monarch, hence the 'by appointment to the late King George V' should really have only been applied up to 1941.
The badge on the left was used when the current Queen granted the honour to Dennis.
As these badges are so easily renovable and transferable from one appliance to another, you must be very careful when a claim is made that certain machine had one. The real question should be whether it was fitted at the factory or some time after.
