Thank you once again Petros for providing two of my favourites in one picture - an F12 and it's a Norfolk machine! This appliance was new to King's Lynn in 1951 and served there till around 1968 after which it moved to the training school at Wymondham. This picture is of particular interest to me because I own this machine but sadly it didn't pass to me in the condition seen here. After years of preservation it fell on hard times like so many others and ended up in a condition where it was really only good for spares. The appliance just visible behind is the States of Jersey Airport Thornycroft, Q368 KEW seen elsewhere on this site but the Bedford over on the right is unknown to me. I have a picture from 1994 at the same place but no registration is visible. I wonder if you made a note of the number on your visit? Thanks again, Chris.

Chris,I took a nice picture of this Dennis F12 PE way back around 1980 when in preservation.I actually had no information on it but Ian Moore was kind enough to add something to this unknown appliance to me. If I send in the picture,do you mind if I use the information you've mensioned to accompany the photo please?.Also Chris,do you know when it actually went out of service?.Thanks,Pete.

Hello Andy, my records say that this was owned by a Mr John Greagsby in 1989 and before that it was preserved in Surrey for many years.

John, yes. Lived near Caernarfon for years and it was kept in a barn.
Pete, of course feel free to use the information in my comment and I look forward to seeing your picture. I have never known when it came out of service but I know a man who probably does - will inform you if I find out. Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for that Andy, always nice to gain a bit more information.
My dad and I bought this appliance in 1987, picked it up from Oxted, Surrey the week-end following the "Great Hurricane" and drove back to Suffolk with her. Storage was always a problem and she survived in the barns of various amenable farmers. Dad moved to North Wales in early 1989 and MAH580 followed, being driven by us from Suffolk with no major problems. My leaving home forced the sale and we contacted Norfolk's preservation society, they bought her in about 1992 and, I believe drove her back to Norfolk taking the spare engine, and axles we had collected. Though in need of some woodwork repairs, she was essentially sound and would have been a good buy if not left sitting in the barns at Bressingham. Chris, have some paperwork and other odds and sods found after Dad "popped his clogs" in 1998.
Hi Tim, needless to say I am very pleased that you have posted your comment here. Thanks for the information regarding your ownership and I will be in touch about the paperwork etc that you have - very much appreciated. I've said it before and I might say it again but this site is great for sharing knowledge and bringing people together who might otherwise not know of each other's existence. I try to supply info when I can and it is always nice when this is acknowledged, even with just a 'thank you'.

Hi - if anyone is still reading this post, my Dad owned MAH 580 up until the early 80's perhaps? I remember many weekends travelling around the country in it. If anyone is interested I'll post some pics and more dates and details of ownership etc.
Hello Pete Treadaway, Sorry to keep you waiting for a few months but yes, there is at least one person still reading this post! And over 10 years on from the comments above, I am still the owner of MAH 580. I am both delighted and grateful to hear from someone who can fill in some of the blanks in MAH's history for me. Although I bought her for spares in a largely dismantled, rotten and unrecognisable state, I've kept all the pieces for 16 years and now, as she reaches her 70th birthday, things are about to start looking up for the old girl.
I'll echo the words of the editor and say "yes please" to your offer to post some photos. If I may, I'd like to contact you directly to learn as much as I can about MAH's time with your family.
Many Thanks Chris

In answer to Pete Matten's question of March 2010, MAH580 was sold out of service on 31.1.75. She is now in the Norfolk Fire Museum workshop for some serious TLC! see
