1990/91 Leyland/Boughton-Fire4Hire Limo

This appliance(H151WCK)from 1990/91 is a Leyland/Boughton Water Tender Ladder that served the Lancashire Fire Brigade and is now one of those party-hire limo's.
This is not the normal type of picture I would send in,but seeing Chris Halls(picture 19480)of the same vehicle but whilst on the run,I thought maybe you should see what it looks like today now its gone into preservation.
I will not pass any comments on what I think on seeing this appliance like this, its the sign of the times.Still,it is now in preservation.

I'll agree with you there, i really dislike party engines, but there's nothing we can do.

Would have been better donated overseas to a country that needs machines to save life and property.

Can you believe it!passed this exact same place today and the appliance was still sitting there,NO ITS NOT-its another one(H149WCK).So thats now 2 in preservation,is there more I wonder?.Oh yea, passed last week and no fire limo but an American Ford(FDNY)Ambulance,a Limo Ambulance would you believe was parked there.
I suppose the Fire Limo takes them to the party, the Limo Ambulance carry's them home.

They must be breeding them Pete, wonder why plod hasn't prosecuted for the illegal number plate.

John, when I passed the machine a second time and realised it had a different registration then my original photo I got the camara from home, went back and took a picture.I then realised the later machine had also the wording'LIMO'in bold yellow lettering across the lockers, and in small print the words'FOR HIRE'also on the lockers?.
I'm now totally confused, maybe next week I'll see both/or a fleet,we'll just have to wait and see.
John, what makes you think it could be an illegal registration plate?,does'nt H149WCK exist?.Pete.

No it exists Pete, its the stylised lettering and spacing. Such a pity to see more gimmickry though, just imagine the good use they could be put to in Africa or elsewhere.

John,as I'm sure your aware, many brigades these days only lease there appliances so when the brigades finished with them they just hand them back. The owner really couldn't give a toss who buys them or where they go,they just want to get rid of them to the highest bidder. So what do we see:-I NEED TO SAY NO MORE-THE FIRE4HIRE LIMO.
I see what you mean about the registration-sign of the times though mate, anything goes these days.

Yeah Pete, true but sad.

This guy has two fire limos that is why you see two different registration plates.
May i say i think he has done a great job the engines look a lot better then when they were in service.
May i also say these machines have no blue lights and also have 2 mot a year.
This is not the case with fspg vehicles, in my opinion all fire trucks out of service should have a yearly mot for safety reasons and pay road tax.

I find it hard to accept the term In Preservation
as this vehicle is no longer a fire appliance it's clearly not being preserved as one either.
This vehicle has had it's identity changed to hackney carrage by the DVLA that's why it requires an MOT and Road Tax.
Maybe there is a Preservation group out there for hackney carrages that they could join, as the FSPG have banned them.

check with vosa simon does not matter if they are limos or fspg vehicles they all count as retired fire engines and now most all be mot and taxed.
nearly all fire limos in the uk have been brought off fspg members, and also a lot fire engines have only survived being limos as they are in good working order as they are maintained and mot to a very high standard.
