This was seen at the Lincolnshire vintage bus museum a couple of years ago. It was on display there, along with a couple of cars and soft skin militaries.
Is this one of the foreward control Landrovers that was unusually bodied by Dennis? (I have a feeling there is a picture elsewhere on the site, but couldn't seem to find it).
I based my description on the RAF Roundel on it's flank there, and what appear to be RAF Badges elsewhere on the vehicle. I'm actually not very knowledgeable on fire engines which aren't from Cleveland.
I think its on a 88 wheel base built by Milles, only 2 built that I know of the other is REG 999 ex Baker Hughes preserved by the Peterbourgh Vol Fire Brigade.
The Rover Company produced its first Land Rover in 1949.Its chassis weight was 1500cwt with a wheelbase 7ft 4ins(88ins)and was powered by a 1600cc engine. The 109inch chassis come much later when the bodies were extended for a heavier payload in the later models such as the 109 Normal Control, and 110 in the later FT Series and Forward Control models. This appliance is from the early to mid 1950's,and is a Series 1 Land Rover with a 88ins wheelbase.

To correct the last post, this is on a Series 2 88 inch wheelbase, first built in 1958 and, going by the suffix-less reg, pre-1964. And to correct the less relevant bits of the last post, the first Land-Rovers were built in 1948 and had an 80 inch (6ft 8ins) wheelbase. They didn't weigh 1500 anything; their unladen weight was about 23 cwt.
SSN 44 is a Dennis ‘M series Fire appliance’ based on the Alfred Miles forward control modification of a Land Rover 88” series two. Only two were built, SSN 44 was stationed at Strathleven Bonded Warehouse Ltd in Scotland and REG999 at Baker Perkins in Peterborough. Currently I own SSN 44 and NAS 286 the pre-production Miles FC pickup prototype, which served as a brigade ‘Duty Unit’ with Brighton Fire Service in the late 60’s, and was tasked with transporting (as a L4R) a pregnant woman to hospital in heavy snow during that time. Both are presently under restoration.
Does anybody know any history on Alfred Myles Land Rover Fire Engine - registration 9290 DD. I need to confirm the year of manufacture. It's serial number is FT 576.
I believe this was used on a trading estate at Brockworth near Gloucester at some stage, but I don't know where else it may have been. It is a Gloucestershire registration number.
It is a Dumbarton registration no and was used as a fire tender in strathleven bond it was kept in a heated garage all year round to ensure it would start first time great to see it again.
