What a fantastic photo Graham, thankyou so much for sharing this, i remember seeing PAJ and this side bt sise at York and thinking how old but nice this looked !
After the Minster fire this was joined by the since preserved ERF Metz ladder, which also appears on this site. I am not sure how long York ran two TTLs, but this was certainly rather unusual for a city this size. The rationale was presumably to avoid a repeat of the Minster fire situation, where the second responding TTL came from either Harrogate or Scarborough, and that took quite some time.
Some time later, the re-think brought the York station back to having a single unit.
And now in 2021 the former Yorks rarely tipped out, tend to use Harrogates as the (Huntington) York one never has a crew and often of late North Yorks is down to 1 ariel appliance to cover the county out of 3.
