West Sussex Fire & Rescue Heavy Rescue Tender
The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have taken delivery of three new heavy rescue tenders in 2009.They are Scania P270-CP31/JDC/Hiab Hipro 099 crane heavy rescue tenders.These are to be allocated to Worthing(reg-HX58 KHR),Chichester HQ(reg-HX58 KHT)and Crawley(reg-HX58 KHU).
This photograph was taken on June 5th,2009 and shows Worthing's new HRT parked in the stations yard at Worthing fire station having been just delivered from workshops.There are no details of yet when these new HRT's will go on the run.

Stephen and Pete, apart from other machines, if ever there was a need for a standardised heavy rescue unit, this is it. Is it really going to carry a crew of four? I doubt it! I wont rant about the make either!

Stephen,I don't have much info on these somewhat ugly(my opinion)looking HrT's at this time but will pass more comments as info comes available.
It will be interesting to see if the appliances are to be manned by a full crew(4/5)instead of 3 riders like the old single cab HrT's.Before,a pump would turned out with the HrT to an incident where there would already be a pump in attendence from the station of the incident.This tied up two major pumps and HrT.If they fully man the new HrT's(4/5),maybe this now means no 2nd pump?.
In reference to lockers and stowage,well this remains to be seen when it comes to stowing them,I'm sure though there will be afew more comments to be added(watch this space).

I reallity there is probably not any less locker space than the current Merc HRTs. It is also probbaly cheaper to usae a standard Scania CP28 cab that modify one to accomodate a crew of 3. A support pump is normally only mobilised from a HRT station for extra manpower if the HRT only has 2 riders, If it has 3 riders and is responding to another station ground with pumps already in attendance it can go with out a suppoort pump from it;s home station. Thus use a standard cab and the 3rd rider can go in the back, but who can tell - more flexibilty for furture changes i crewing possibly! Thanks, Jon
