West Sussex Fire & Rescue Heavy Rescue Tender

The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have just taken delivery of three new heavy rescue tenders in 2009.They are Scania P270-CP31/JDC/Hiab Hipro 099 crane heavy rescue tenders. These are to be allocated to Worthing(reg-HX58 KHR,Chichester(reg-HX58 KHT)and Crawley(reg-HX58 KHU).
This photo was taken at the brigade workshops on June 5th,2009 and actually shows the working end of Crawleys new HRT showing the Hiab Hipro 099 crane unit.Chichester's new HRT can also just be seen inside workshops now being fitted out before going on the run at Headquarters.
It is not known at this time when the new 2009 HRT's,the four new Scania/JDC WrL'S or the two new Man/JDC WrLs for Keymer and Crawley will go actually on the run.

I wondered if you could give me the addresses of the countie's workshops. I've been trying to find out for ages where they all are, so I could look them up on google earth.

Danny,WSFB new workshops are in Terminus Road on the industrial estate.Go along the A27 Chichester bye-pass and when looking at Google look for Kingsham-Stockbridge ,turn right at that roundabout, industrial estate is on the left-Chichester Leasure Park is a large building on the corner, turn left and this is Terminus Road.
The building is difficult to pick out because at the time workshops were still at Tangmere where fire appliances are clearly still visible.

Thanks Pete for interesting info and pictures - interesting that the new HRTs have large CP28 cabs, assuming they are still planned to run with a crew of 2/3. Have you got the registration numbers of the new Scania WTLs? Thanks, Jon. anls

Hi Pete. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Jon,I've only managed to photograph three of the 4 new 2009 Scania's before they go on the run-they are:-Shoreham,Worthing and Chichester.
Shoreham:-HX58 CNY/Worthing:-HX58 KHW/Chichester:-HX58 CNV.I'll let you know the other when I can find out, unless someone else knows?.
In your last comment, what does anls mean please?.

Thanks for the info Pete. oops - anls - i think the cat jumped on the keyboard just as i pressed send! please ignore as it means nothing! sorry, Jon. Just got to wait for the hand down moves and the first Rapiers being disposed of - L83PTR looked in poor condition at Lancing open day, but not surprising as it has spent the last 4 years outside in all weathers. Will Lancing get a 2nd hand Scania or Sabre as i have heard both from different people. Fingers crossed for a Sabre, Jon.

Hi gues. I've recently been seeing a new scania at the back of Crawley Fire Station, and its not one of the stations two.

Added by Danny Chatfield on 12 June 2009.
Danny,if it was'nt the new Scania HrT thats going to Crawley which is shown here,reg-HX58 KHU which was on station for awhile, then did you get the registration please?.

Added by Pete Matten on 12 June 2009.
Sorry, I did try to get some pictures of it, but it was being kept right at the back near the tower, so I wasn't able to get the registration. But, I havn't given up yet.

Great idea to put the Hiab Hydraulic Crane at the rear, for great radius and range of action.

My old Canadian Coast Guard had them fitted to small Buoy-Tenders, and they were great, for small working decks; and folded right out of the way. Salt water and all, provided they got the proper maintenance.

Regards, from Canada,

A few days ago I spotted Crawley's new Heavy Rescue Tender at the back of the station, so I suspect Chichester and Worthing now have theirs as well.

Does any one know now when these Heavy Rescue Tenders will be going on the run. Because Crawley's one has been sitting at the back of Crawley Fire Station for a few months now.

Chichester now has 3 Scanias ( 2 WRLT and 1 HRT) in operation.

This week I saw Horsham's ex Rescue Tender in Crawley's third bay again, so it sounds like their having mechanical problems with their new Heavy Rescue Tender.
