Dodge K1113 leaving Wells Fire Station 10.10.90

This picture shows the Dodge K1113/CFE Water Tender CYB14S leaving the Old Wells Fire Station in Princes Road for the last time enroute to the new Fire Station on 10/10/1990. A few days later the old station was reduced to a pile of rubble to make way for a new Tesco's store.

Has anyone got any pictures of the Hertfordshire Dodge appliances of the seventies?

So that what the Tesco was built on top of! I had always assumed that the new fire station had been built on the site of the old one as had happend at Glastonbury so now I know otherwise.

George, Tesco paid for the new station to be built they also did this in Chard. If you stand facing Tescos with the bus station toilets behind you that is where the old Station stood. A shout was always great fun because the firemans cars were just left on the road at either side of the station depending on what direction they came from. The Wells swimming pool was directly behind the station and if you were quick when the siren went off there was a window you could look through at the back of the station and see the firemen running in and the machines turning out. It was a bit tight in the station and you couldn't get the second pump out without the first away having gone first.

Hey Paul, is that the siren on the tower? Double-header three-mile or what,thanks..

Added by Pavel Zaremba on 23 May 2009.
Pavel no it is not the siren its a floodlight in the drill yard. By this time retained crews in Somerset were on the Multitone alerters however there was a siren on the drill tower at Wells and this was still in use to call out the retained firemen during the daytime until the early eighties. It sounded the same as an air raid siren. At night the firemen had bells fitted in their houses.
