Former York Fire brigade Bedford ET

This is VDN100, The City of York's former Bedford ET, at 'Monte's of Fencehouses' site (the other one now closed behind Fencehouses fire station) back in 1983. I only took this because it looked interesting, I didn't know then that it was a fire appliance.

'Oh Dear', I'm sure this was a classic in its prime years like the others that
York had in the yellow livery. But did any of them ever go into presevation?, and can anybody share with us some photographs please.

Pete, your old friend bob here, as you will be aware the city of york, adopted
a yellow livery for its appliance fleet in line with the city of coventry during
1970 the line-up at york was as follows erf 75 pump/hydraulic platform hcb 1971
ford d1114 carmichael water tender ladder, bedford rl et (bodybuilder?) commer walkthrough van not sure about the role on this one may have been a salvage tender. These were all a total yellow livery (ford had yellow wheels) remaining ones had jet black, also aec 100ft turntable ladder red (thought may have been first one built) and a bedford swb hcb water tender tj5 red alloy remember the
ones at hurstpierpoint and keymer, it was identical in spec. I do have further information registrations etc etc for them but not to hand. Hope you find this of interest, one final comment the erf h.p is in southern ireland alive and well!

Hi Pete and Bob. I have some photos of a few of the old York City appliances in both red and the yellow, unfortunately I do not have the copyright on the photos so I cannot put them on the site.
The AEC Turntable ladder (OVY200)was indeed the first one built. The Commer walkthrough van was the chimney van. The Ford D1114 water ladder was painted red after it passed the North Yorkshire in 1974 and served at Sherburn on the A64 between Malton and Scarborough. The yellow ET in the above photo had the body built in York and was then fitted out by the firemen at the station. Most of men taken on were tradesman. As it was a small brigade the men would do most of the up keep and repairs on the station and appliances. The yellow ERF pump/platform went the Ireland and was painted red. Paul.
