I believe this now serves in Newquay as the new MAN serves in Truro.

I was in Newquay three weeks ago and they had a MAN/Vema ALP on the run. No sign of this Mercedes?

This machine was delivered NEW to Newquay about a year after Truro had received M568DAF also a Mercedes SK but a larger unit with 3 axles and prior to that their former appliance again a Mercedes chassis reg g284crl which had inherited a simon snorkel ladder from a dodge hp in around 1990.
The German make of chassis has highly been regarded by both the Fire and Ambulance Services in Cornwall over the years.
This cab was introduced way back in 1974 with a wire mesh grille. The modernized version here had a rather ill-fitting black plastic grille. To my eyes these looked okay if painted the same color as the cab, but looked rather ugly when left black.
At the time, only about a dozen UK brigades had Mercedes, but after London started buying Ategos I seem to remember the numbers increased quite strongly.
They are of course very popular with fire services all over Europe, the Middle East and many other corners of the World.
