What other pods do the PMs carry?

Added by David jones on 15 June 2010.
David - According to the 2004 fleet list, they had;

- Command Unit Bodies
- Damage Control Bodies
- Bulk Foam Bodies
- Breathing Apparatus Tender Bodies
- Hose Layer Bodies
- Major Incident Conference Unit Bodies
- Operational Support Bodies

Bodies referring to pods of course.

Interesting how much the variety of pods has grown in the past twenty years. Some European fire services in large cities now identify over thirty different types. Without listing everything, the major explosion of new additions includes several different types and levels of hazmat containers, flood abatement, boat carriers, chemical and nuclear incident units, the Hytrans system, water tankers, different special extinguishing media containers, lighting and ventilation units, emergency generators, R and R modules, crane tenders and a wide variety of special rescue containers as well as both open and enclosed general purpose pods which can be custom loaded with virtually anything.

Clearly, the pod concept - which was first developed in the seventies - has enabled fire services to greatly expand their capabilities, without the cost of having to buy complete vehicles to cover all of these different roles.
