Formerly of the Brayton, (TN?) FD, 1967 R4361 800KB, originally delivered to Clarksville, Tennessee TN 1000/500(?) Seagrave. Now in private ownership in Cleveland, TN. USA.
Mid-engined. Gradually getting the crew off the rear-step; and forward, into those "Grannie Seats" [Yes, Pavel!] facing backward, on either side of the Engine and Pump Housing. A classic.
Seagrave resisted building this configuration - first developed by American La France in 1948 - for many years, but joined in the party after customer resistance to their old fashioned "New World" conventional control pumpers finally persuaded them to update their offerings.
Mack, Maxim, Hahn, Ward, Pierce, Pirsch, Sutphen, Boardman, Crown and Spartan all marketed the same configuration, among others - and Ford, GMC and International all offered front engine forward control chassis at the same time too.
The evolution of tilt cabs eventually moved the engine on many new deliveries to the more conventional front position between the driver and officer's seats, but many mid-engined units are still being built...
