John Did you happen to see if there were any operating or motor manuels with the rig?

Ah, GXA 99 - one of the NFS issue TLs. This went to Burton-on-Trent on its war-time delivery, remaining there until denationalisation, at which time it went to Birmingham.
Could you possibly confirm the chassis number please, which will be a 4-figure number that probably begins "31".

Sorry - I'd missed you quoted the chassis number in the original caption !

Did my training on this old lady when it was the training machine with Birmingham Fire and Ambulance Service at Brummy HQ, Corporation St in about 1967.

Interesting to see on top of the nearside locker, a lug type standpipe. Birmingham hydrants were that type originally and in the mid/late 1960's we were still finding hydrants with that type of outlet. We carried adaptors on the appliances to convert them to standard round thread which we left in place but still carried the copper lug standpipe. I recall that the hydrants there were of the sluice valve type which opened clockwise. When I transferred to South wales, of course, hydrants opened anticlockwise - took me some time to adapt myself!
