Hey Frank do you know what master cylinder van means and what does do ?

Added by Tiger on 30 January 2011.
Tiger the model is a Renault "Master".
The cylinder van means it carries BA cylinders on board, so I think you can call it in English a BA Van.

The French on the body says "Reserve d'Air Comprime", i.e. "Compressed Air Supply". In the States I think we'd call it "Mask Support".

This type of vehicle involved in support units on fire importance. It can "recharge" the breathing apparatus of firefighters in Paris.
Its white roof means that this truck is considered as falling within the emergency services and not fight against the fire.

Lambert, I don't agree with the part of the white roof as I have photos of other support vehicles (water rescue unit)vans and staff cars with a red roof these are not "fire-fighting" units (just a thought)

Added by Fire995 on 03 February 2011.
There is no rule about the white roof, normally only ambulances and forest fire vehicles have white roofs in France.
As for this BA Van it might be a test conducted by the BSPP (Pompiers Paris) as they carry many.
The newly introduced BA Vans (2010-2011) have again red roofs.

As for the little story, this van is in infraction as it should have signs mentioning that it carries air bottles. However the BSPP likes to be different and doesn't always follows the rules! Anyway it is not the Paris Police who will arrest this vehicle!

I'm sorry that you disagree with me, but what I express is that a rule issued in France regarding tags and delivered vehicles for firefighters. Now the whole world knows that non-compliance is the national sport of the French.

Got confirmation the new BA Vans - CRAC 11, 12, 13 will be "all red" They are issued these days.

Overall in Paris FD, many changes are implemented with new lettering, new yellow lines, new signs with 18/112 emergency numbers etc...
