Another view of this machine in desperate need of help. It is located right on the river front, with the Tyne bridge in the background. You can see that the external lock on the cab door is still in place and all the external metalwork looks in good condition. If you wish to make contact with the seller (scrap value) then email me directly.

Thanks,

Barry.

what is the scrap value on a great machine like this?

Added by Stevie Murray on 29 March 2008.
You are just talking about scrap metal prices. It would take a lot of time and effort selling the bits of piecemeal although you could certainly make more money out of it that way. There was a rusty Dennis RS on ebay quite recently and the seller said he would take scrap value of £1000. He had no takers, so perhaps I might value this at around £1000. Stevie, If you want to make an offer to the seller I can pass his telephone number onto you.

Does anyone else have a view?

I have previously purchased a TL from the owner of this TL and already discussed with him his expectations for this one. What must be taken in to account is not just the scrap value but also the fact that any scrap merchant would charge a fee to collect this unroadworthy vehicle. Alternatively, the buyer would have to collect via low loader for example. This all costs money. In other words, unless a number of interested parties create a bidding war, this machine will go for a song. If any genuine Preservationist would like my help (considering I have dealt with this owner) please email me at [email protected]
I have very fond personal memories of Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade and would love to see this TL restored to it's former glory. It is too far gone for me.

After weeks of discussion finally agreed a deal and collected the Dennis on Monday 28th July 2008, (the day after the Tuxedo Princess was towed to Greece thats another story!) transported to Cambridgeshire for restoration. The challenge starts now. Any Technical info/advice welcome. I will add photos of the move.

John, well done! I have its sister RTN144S, there are pictures of it on this site. I was just hoping that some one would save it rather than break it up for spare parts.

Well done sir! I used to see this on the Quayside from the Tyne Bridge regularly on my way home from Newcastle upon Tyne. I am pleased that it has survived into preservation, and will look forward to seeing it on the rally scene. A former County Durham Bedford (897JUP) sits in a car park in the West Yorkshire area (Wakefield/Huddersfield), but I don't have any further details.

Five years on now John, has she returned to her former glory or has the resession cost us another classic fire engine?

Still work in progress, hope to have it roadworthy by the Spring. It still needs a paint job and some hydraulic leaks fixing. I have uploaded a couple of more recent pics .
