This Machine was new to Durham machine Fire Brigade in 1961. It served at Stockton Fire Staion (South Road Norton) from 1965, and was withdrawn in the middle 70's. It was recovered for preservation, and attended the Teesside Airport, Preston Park, and Tyne Tees Rallies regularly throughout the nineties. It was involved in an RTA with a Lorry on the A19 whilst returning from the Tyne Tees Rally in either 1996 or 97, in which it was written off. I would be interesting to know if this Machine actually still exists because several people have mentioned that it is either under re-restoraton or is a derilict wreck, can anyone confirm this?
Not meaning to be pedantic, but it was a J5, not a J1.

The second one seems to be a near twin, but on a slightly longer wheelbase. It has a bit longer cab, and a few inches more room in the forward locker, too.
As I recall, this was accompanied at the Stockton Fire Station in its day by a water tender escape which was also a Bedford J5 - HCB, which looked almost identical.
