MPM 795F)1967 Bedford/HCB Angus water tender
MPM 795F)1967 Bedford/HCB Angus water tender of the East Sussex Fire Brigade which spent all its working life at Crowborough Fire Station before coming out of operational service in 1981 with a blown engine.After going out of service,this old East Sussex appliance was privately purchased,completely restored and is now in presevation.This photograph was taken around 1995 at a local fire engine rally in East Sussex,and is still I beleave in presevation.

Yes I currently own this appliance Jan 2010 .
It is in a poor condition now and needs a complete restoration needed from wheels to roof .
Anymore info on this vehicle is much needed .
I know its first call was a chimney fire in the crowborough area.
Have now just found a new owner and soon to be restored to its formal glory once more

Good luck on the 'Bedford' restoration, Jim; and hope to see the Pics from you of this fine machine - there are a fair number of 'Bedford' fans on this 'Site !
BTW; after being retired from the Fire Service, with the blown engine; was that engine re-built, or, another (used) engine dropped in ?

I have found a very good new home for this now , not myself but it shall be soon back to all the local shows .
As for the engine Pat I have no idea .

Its good to know this lovely old Bedfords still around Jim,I managed to take several pictures of it many years ago.Good luck with the restoration.

Hey Wow, I've just taken the lease on the C'borough Fire Station. I've long admired the building and am now in the process of restoring to bring back some of it's identity. I should be opening mid December and would love to have the original engine for the opening!! Or at least some history.

Which Crowborough fire station are you talking about. The present one has been in use since I would guess the late 1950's probably 1960's. MPM was stationed there and the building is still owned by ESF&RS I would think. So was there an earlier building you are referring too?

Hi, yes - there was an earlier purpose built building erected on the high st in 1904. Sadly with the lack of regard for historic buildings during the 70's, it was chopped around and the façade was changed to a shop front. It is now unrecognisable as a fire station but the extent of the refurbish is bringing it back as much as possible. Still, I'd appreciate any info anyone has of the old crowborough fire station.

All I could find was a brief reference in the 50th anniversary Focus on Fire - I quote "The Fire station inherited from the NFS in 1948, dated from 1904 and was built in the High Street. It was designed to be like a Metropolitian fire station, and housed two appliances. In June 1964 the Brigade occupied it's new station in Beacon Road".
