yes you will find fire brigades running ambulances mainly in the nort-west of Germany, exactly the former british occupation zone after WW II, nowadays the federal states of North-Rhine Westfalia+Lower Saxony+Hamburg+Bremen(these 2 cities are also states !)+Schleswig Holstein.in the southern, american+french zones things were run the way they were before the end of the war : that meant the german red cross DRK took care with rare exemtions like munich+stuttgart+frankfurt..

Marcel!Its common in the big citys of Germany, that a ambulance follows the firebrigades on the run to a fire or a rta!

In general, only full time fire services in Germany operate EMS units, but the 22, 000 volunteer fire companies usually do not.

In Berlin, however, some of the volunteer fire companies operate a car as an EMS first responder, a trend which in my opinion may become more common in the future.

EMS response is provided by several professional and volunteer organizations in Germany, even in cities where the fire service also provides them. And in some places the fire services house other EMS providers' units in their fire and/or ambulance stations too.
