The Bedford Crash Tender and the famed USSR Antonov AN-2 passenger biplane [still in service today] make a great pair. Presuming the Bedford has a rear pump - any idea of what it carried for fire gear - protein foam, maybe?
Around this same era I heard they mixed chicken feathers with the foam at times. It made for a very sticky mixture that clung onto various airplane parts like engine cowlings etc. Not sure why it eventually became obsolete. Maybe it clogged up the pump vanes. (Just guessing)
