Good photo, what type of machines were in use at the time of the fire at the minster?

i think they would have been the old Bedford pumps north yorks used to run, along with the old erf/metz tl.
shame Bedford stopped making fire appliances / commercial vehicles are these were far superior to the volvo product used by the brigade today and the old erf/metz tl was far, far better than the horrid / unreliable merc econic alp we now have.
Dave, most of North Yorks pumps at the time of the Minster fire would be Bedford, with a few Dodge pumps. All three of North Yorks TL's were there from York, Harrogate and Scarborough and every station in the county was at some stage involved, either at the fire or on stand by at other stations, there was some interesting cover moves. I think retained crew from Helmsley and Thirsk were in York on stand by and had Several calls. Several Bedford prime movers were there, and at least 2 Et's.
Hi John, I will have a word round and see what I can come with. I know that a lot of the information held by North Yorks fire and rescue has been disposed of. They only keep information for a certain number of years.
John, York Minster fire went to make pumps 22, 3 TL's and various other specials. Appliances attending that I know. York x 2 pumps, ET and TL. Acomb x 2 pumps. Tadcaster x 2 pumps. Easingwold x 2 pumps. Selby x 2 pumps. Malton x 2 pumps. Boroughbridge x 2 pumps. Ripon x 2 pumps. Thirsk x 2 pumps. Scarborough TL. Northallerton x 2 pumps.Harrogate x 3 pumps, ET and TL. Prime movers with Control unit and flat bed lorry for hose and ladder recovery. Can't find anything about cover moves. Assistance from West, South Yorkshire, Humberside, Cleveland and Lancashire provided stand by pumps to stations close to their borders.Every station in the county was used either at the fire or on stand by. Hope this helps.
Hi Pete, I have the official mobilising for York Minster here, and you're almost correct. It was actually a "make pumps 20", and of those you mention, Boroughbridge and Thirsk wach supplied one pump rather than two, and Harrogate supplied two also. It should also be mentioned that at 0340, control also mobilised a 4th TL, this being the reserve that was housed at Acomb. The CaV from Reth also went on post-MP20.

One aftermath of the fire was that for several years York ran two TLs, which was a bit unusual for a city this size.
An officer at the station told me this was because it took so long for the Harrogate and Scarborough ladders to arrive, so the service made the precautionary move to position a second ladder at York. At the time they had the ERF Metz and an AEC Merryweather there.
I was a bit surprised they did not send a TL from Leeds, as I would have thought it would be nearer? Or is my thirty five year absence from Yorkshire playing tricks with my memory?
