Funny old things to drive if they had the auto box. They would go into neutral if you took your foot of the gas and you would just hang on if you were going around a bend. This one spent its last day at Wadhurst and they blew the engine in flood water in 2000.

C946 SAP or Maybe of been (945) This applaince was later brought to Station 15 Wadhurst as the 2nd pump, as Whiskey 15. Served there for many years, until it was written-off by East Sussex after it took water in through the exhaust being driven through flood water in Tidebrook Wadhurst During the floods of 2000/01 I was not the driver at the time , as busy in another part of the county on the 1st pump

Were these a crew safety design like the earlier HCB "CSV" water tenders, or just a styling alternative in case brigades dd not want the standard HCB body built onto the regular TK chassis cowl or chassis cab?

J. Hemsley I seem to remember video footage this of particular Fire engine abandoned in flood water On a old VHS tape educational programme about the dangers consequences of flooding. Do you know what happened to this pump after the flooding? I presume it was scrapped?

These were marketed with the high strength cab HSC rather than a Crew safety vehicle CSV

Thanks. I personally liked the CSV style. It was unfortunate that they were too expensive to ever become really popular - at a time when many of the coachbuilt fire appliance cabs were really not very safe for crew members in an accident.

Was this HSC design a more successful effort?

I think far more HSC Bedfords were sold compared to CSVs.
