This vehicle was acquired in 1987, along with two trailers, this Flat Bed one, which was primarily used for HGV training, and a large Foam Tanker which was based at Billingham fire station. It was Cleveland Fire Brigade's biggest and perhaps least used appliance, I dont think I ever saw it in action once, except for it turning up at rallies. This picture shows it at Teesside Airport Fire Engine Rally, which was the predecessor to Stockton's Preston Park event. D355FAJ was withdrawn around 1995/6, and I later traced it to the Road Haulage company 'Waughs of Gateshead'where it spent a couple of years, before disappearing around 2000. The Foam bowser still exists, it's still parked at Billingham Fire Station.
This vehicle missed out on it's finest hour, shortly after the Tractor unit's disposal, that big fire at ICI Wilton happened. The brigade had to hire a tractor unit to haul the Foam Tanker to the fire! I remember seeing it, either on the local news, or a picture of it on it's way to Wilton with a Police escort in the local paper, I can't remember which now, my records are'nt readily to hand at the moment.
also this flatbed/low loader was also used to transport the old preserved Bedford that Cleveland used to have in its collection as it was seen at a fire engine rally in bradford as I was at this rally with one of my fire engines
