Along with the tragic deaths of two *firefighters, East Sussex F&RS lost a dozen frontline fire appliances in the huge explosion and blaze at the Festival Fireworks factory near Ringmer in December 2006.

The appliances written-off included 8 ERPs, 1 WrT, 1 ALP, 1 WrC and 1 ICU. Several brigades have loaned spare appliances to cover the resultant shortfall until ESF&RS take delivery of brand-new replacements.

The brand-new appliances will be on the new Volvo FLL15-280 chassis with bodywork by JDC, and should all be delivered by January 2008.

And they have stripes! No batternburgs in sight!

*Footnote: RIP Brian Wembridge and Geoff Whicker. Bless you for your sacrifice.

This appliance had had a bit of a push and pull life, originally built to be the second away from Brighton it was found to be over weight when loaded and never went on the run as a front line fire fighting appliance. It was then placed on trial with Humberside for around a year before returning to East Sussex were it was placed in storage with an uncertain future. Several months ago it was saved from the scrap pile as it was decided that it would be placed on the run as the foam tender at Newhaven fire station replacing the Volvo flat bed truck. It was placed on the run as the foam tender at the end in June 2013

It nearly went on the run at Rye some 2 years ago had the name on the door.If a few tweeks had been performed to the stowage it could have been a very good water tender.
