With a 4000 litre tank, 1000 LPM pump and a five seat cab on a short wheelbase 4X4 chassis this Renault is representative of what was - and still is - the most common brush truck in France. With over 4000 various capacity units in operation, French fire services actually have slightly more of these units than structure fire pumpers.
My mistake! This is actually the original version of the Renault ultra short four seat crew cab, still widespread in France and being supplied on the current model cabs being built by Renault for brush pumpers today. In order to keep a short wheelbase for optimal ground clearance and maneuverability, while maximizing room for the 4000 litre water tank, the crew cab is ultra short. This is possible because it has two outward facing single seats in the rear instead of the conventional bench seat. Probably less comfortable, but not totally agonizing….This limits the crew to four, but this is deemed adequate for a brush pumper in France. Although pioneered by Renault, similar short crew cabs have been introduced on both MAN and Unimog CCF trucks. In Germany, and some other countries like Greece, which also have a lot of Unimogs, fire services usually seem to settle for the standard two door cab which has seating for three.
