I wonder if this might have been a pumper which was subsequently repurposed? This is not unheard of in fire service fleets. The reason for this suggestion is that in 1967 - when this truck was bought - the idea of a logistics truck was not something that had really become current in German fire service thinking, although of course it’s not impossible….
This town of 42,000 residents is most famous as the birthplace of Gottlieb Daimler, the inventor of the internal combustion engined vehicle. The all volunteer fire service operates out of eight fire stations with 25 vehicles. These include ten pumpers, eight squad vans, two command vehicles, two logistics units, one turntable ladder, one heavy rescue truck and two trailers. Although two or more stations are turned out in most serious situations, each station has a nine seat squad van so that volunteers arriving at the station after the first due unit or units have been turned out can ride to the incident too. This approach results in quite a few additional personnel being on site in most cases.
