The German hose carts are similar to those universally carried on French pumpers. In both cases the couplings are omnidirectional, so the hoses can be run out from the pumper for either attack, or supply, or both, saving time. French hydrants are up to 200 metres apart, while in Germany they are closer, within 120 metres. For this reason the French carts usually have ten 2O meter lengths, while the German carts have around eight. Another difference is that French fire services use 65mm hose, while German B hose is 75 mm for increased flow capacity. That said, many French pumpers also carry 110 mm LDH for hookup to high volume hydrants, while carrying LDH on pumpers is unheard of in Germany.
A few other countries also use hose carts, most notably Japan and Chile, as well as many former French colonies which still buy French equipment.
