For decades the front mounted pump was a standard feature of German pumpers which carried a PP, as it was in a rear locker where the rear mounted PTO pump would otherwise have been located. These also deleted the standard 800 liter water tank, presumably for weight reasons. More recently the most common Rosenbauer Fox PP has been reduced in size so it can now fit in a side locker. As a result, modern pumpers carrying a PP have a rear mounted fixed pump. There still exist light pumpers with only a PP, and these still have it located in a rear locker. Some of these also now have a water tank, so it can be used in situ for minor incidents. They are mainly used by volunteers in small village fire companies, as they are relatively inexpensive, very maneuverable and can be driven by a volunteer without a heavy goods driving licence.
