These were an alternative to the Mercedes Vario 8 ton chassis for volunteers buying LF8 and LF8TS, after Magirus was merged into IVECO and started marketing this FIAT light truck as a Magirus. It was originally designed by OM in Italy, but then rebadged as a Fiat after Fiat bought out the firm, before its final name change to IVECO. Unfortunately it did not have the bullet proof reputation of its bigger Magirus brothers, nor of its main competitor Mercedes. As a result it did not prove all that popular, though it did have the advantage of very competitive pricing - which was often a factor for volunteers in less affluent places. Another disadvantage was that it was not available in a 4X4 version, which precluded it from being considered by a lot of semi rural small town and village volunteers.
This factory crew cab was built in a joint venture between IVECO, DAF, Renault and Volvo, so fire appliances on all four chassis looked very similar. It came in two door three seat, four door six seat and (as here) an extended nine seat four door version.
