The DIN specification for a MLF does indeed call for a 600 litre tank, but many German brigades actually have them built with 1,000 or even sometimes even larger tanks. The reason is that a standard 52mm attack hose is usually operated with a 400 LPM branch, and even the best crew are unlikely to always be able to get set in to a hydrant in less than two minutes. German pumpers are rarely fitted with small diameter hose reels and, even when they are, these are not considered adequate to be used on structure fires.
