Nice photo depicting the original “ bucket “ style container for crew members. This was the first step from having only a literal folding step on the ladder itself to the large folding multipurpose cages now common. These can have monitors, hose reels, water connections, stretcher platforms, breathing air piping, lighting, cameras, infra red equipment, radios and ladder controls for the team in the cage.
In its day this was thought to be a great innovation. Nowadays it does only look a little quaint.
