This transitional design was very common in Germany in the late twenties and early thirties, installing a lid-like roof on an otherwise open seating configuration. Very soon after this example was delivered, many German fire truck body builders switched to fully enclosed designs with full height glazed doors. Because it was felt back then that TTL drivers needed 360 degree upward visibility to position their vehicle optimally, enclosed cabs on ladders were rather less common in the thirties, appearing in large numbers only in the fifties.
