This sequence of events demonstrates the lesson learned years ago by the BMPM and most departmental fire services in France that it is unwise to try to tackle brush fires with structural pumpers. In France as a whole there are actually more brush units and tankers than structural pumpers, reflecting a focus on the need to address these risks with purpose designed 4X4 trucks. France has by now developed these to a fine art, and French brush truck designs are now cropping up in other countries, notably in Germany, where global warming has created a new focus on being better equipped to handle large scale vegetation fires.

As this continues, we can expect other increasingly northern fire services to start acquiring more and more brush trucks as they too discover ( as in the case of London ) that vegetation fires are now an all year round problem.
