Note the unusually high mounting of the hose carts to retain the angle of departure, necessary to preserve this unit’s off road capability. This vehicle is an effort to combine both off road vegetation firefighting and a structural fire tender in one vehicle. It is an approach which has been tried in several French departmental fire service, but has not been very widely adopted. For decades, French firefighters have refined their structural pumpers and off road brush trucks along very different lines and made them very specialized as a result. This success has made it very difficult to come up with a hybrid design, which seems to be what we in Yorkshire describe as “neither nowt nor summat”.
