Actually a Mercedes Benz Atego series two, pre facelift. A bit surprising that it went into reserve status after only nine years of operations. Most German full time stations’ pumps seem to be in service for around 12 to 15 years before being relegated to training or reserve status.

This example has an extended factory cab, instead of a custom few cab built into the rear bodywork. This older style was very popular in the 1900s, but this 2015 build was quite a while after most German manufacturers were much more focused on the wider, taller and more spacious style, which was framed into the rear bodywork. Although much less stylish, this newer design offered better accommodations for the crew, as well as more storage for on hand equipment to be readily accessible.

Freiburg FD changed to MAN pumpers 1st generation in 2019 and now recently MAN pumpers 2nd generation

It seems that quite a few German fire services are trending away from Mercedes towards MAN and - increasingly - Scania trucks in recent years.
