Vario 8 ton chassis, which is much larger and heavier than the Sprinter used for standard ambulances. Until it was discontinued around ten years ago, the Vario was also very popular in Germany and several other countries as a light pumper and in several special roles. These included light rescue, small (1800 litre) water tanker, BA tender, logistics truck, ICU and 18 metre turntable ladder. Several examples had crew cabs and many were 4X4. Numerous examples of all of these different types can be seen on this site.
