Note the original older style blue lights, accompanied by the rotating lights - which were most likely installed a few years later. In the fifties and sixties, most German turntables which were operated by volunteers had crew cabs, as there was no shortage of personnel. In recent years crew cabs have become virtually extinct.

Single screw mechanical ladder, which preceded the new hydraulic ones introduced around 1959. Although both Magirus and Metz built loads of 30 metre ladders during this time, as well as a few longer ones, they also supplied a lot of 18, 22, 25 and 27 metre ones to fire services who did not need the longer sizes. These were bought in great numbers and led to the very rapid disappearance of wheeled long extension ladders - similar to the British escape ladder - which were usually towed by a fire pump. Already dying in the 1920s and 1930s, these finally disappeared in the fifties and sixties, replaced by turntable ladders from 18 metres upwards.
