A large (for its time) station wagon built on a chassis which was also used for a one ton van and quite popular as a tow truck, these were available with four wheel drive and included a taxi version, which had jump seats like a traditional London taxi.
Despite its size and versatility, including its towing capacity - as illustrated here - it had limited success and was in production for only four years. It had a claimed top speed of 60 mph, but was in reality quite a bit slower, especially when fully loaded and pulling a trailer! Its use as a fire tender back then reflects the paucity (and cost) of purpose built fire appliances in the years immediately following WWII.
