I can find very little on this one. It was at Crich museum in 1994.

NG is not a Derbyshire reg no (It is Norfolk Norwich ) so I am a bit suspicious of the plate.

A bit difficult to tell, but the ladder looks like it has been painted with camouflage paint. Normally these wooden escape ladders were either painted red or more often just varnished.

I think that this is a wooden ladder that was varnished, the varnish has worn away over time, leaving the wood to fade to grey.
Almost 50 years ago, as a new recruit we had to sand down and re-varnish our 35ft & short-extension wooden Ajax ladders.

Thanks Mike! I have never seen an escape in this state, but I am sure you are right. Amazing what firemen had to do back then to keep everything in good working order. A lot less work for the new generation! Thanks for your service.
