Bear in mind all French fire services are also EMS providers, and women are often particularly attracted to this aspect of the service, which incidentally accounts for an average of more than 80% of all turnout runs.
Because women are often a bit less engaged in employment away from home than their male colleagues, their ability to respond during working hours on weekdays is often rather quicker - which can be a significant advantage.
Interestingly Iran - of all places - has quite a lot of female firefighters, but they operate out of totally segregated fire stations!
